‘Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all’ - Aristotle.
There is depth in the above quote, a revelation that needs to be understood by all stakeholders of education as it involves nurturing and wisely investing young lives, especially those who have been entrusted in our care.
An educational institution is not a cluster of buildings where learning facts and gaining theoretical knowledge is the call of the day. It is not a place which equips a child with astronomical grades with which a job or a career may be pursued. It is not a place which determines the social standing of a child. An educational institution is a shrine where an awakening and blending of the mind and heart takes place.
These days in the light of the demand made by society on the younger generation to enhance their academic performance, the focus of all is on obtaining excellent grades on paper. Learning and feeding the mind has become an automated process. The fun and joy of learning, the sparkle of eyes at a discovery, the wonder and quest to know, the igniting of a creative fire linked to talents galore is lost. The very fact that when we look around we feel insecure, fear and doubt for our future generation means we have to work towards equipping our pupils to stand the onslaughts of tomorrow by beginning today.
At Olivia Enlightened English School we have made it our mission to strike a balance between academic excellence and an overall development of the child; which includes honing talents and an imbibing of values and morals.
The message we would want to give our children, the forerunners and guardians of tomorrow has been summarized aptly in this line, ‘Education gives you wings to fly’- APJ Abdul Kalam. The message we would want to give our children, the forerunners and guardians of tomorrow has been summarized aptly in this line, ‘Education gives you wings to fly’- APJ Abdul Kalam.
